My love and appreciation for the performing arts runs bone deep, almost as deep as the frustration I've felt for years surrounding the lack of organization and intuitive navigation of posted performance scores. With my experiences as a fan, performer and instructor, diligent research and feedback from peers and collaborators, I confidently present the solution: Toccata, the live scores app of the performing arts.
Toccata is a personal organizer and sidekick that a performer can keep in their warm up jacket throughout the competition day. A live scores app for winterguard enthusiasts. Toccata provides efficiency using instant mass communication with customizable notification options, information accessibility with easy access to scores, and accuracy by cutting out miscommunication at the root and pulling straight from the source.
Unfamiliar with the activity? Winterguard is a performance art that combines elements of dance, design, and equipment manipulation, often set to music, typically performed indoors during the winter months. The activity itself is a derivative conglomerate of marching band, onstage performance, dance, and classic ROTC drill teams.
The performing arts space is riddled with wasted time and miscommunications. The 2023 score posting system lacks urgency, accessibility and overall common sense. Different information is posted across different online databases or sent privately to individuals. In some local circuits, written scores are posted on walls by hand for fans to rush to see, and rely on outdated, user labor-intensive systems to distribute critiques. Multiple round competition days roll fast and communications are often lost in the chaos. Toccata cuts out the middle man, curates your alerts, and notifies you when updates are ready to view.
